The Mississippi Open Meeting Act requires that all Board and Commission meetings are public, and further requires all agendas and meeting materials be made available to the public.
Meetings
The Board of Supervisors meets twice a month:
First Monday of each month at 5:00pm
Third Monday of each month at 9:00am
(Published meeting procedures state it starts at 8:00am. However, a 9:00am start has been the standard practice.)
The Planning Commission meets once a month:
Fourth Monday of each month at 5:30pm
All meetings are held at the Chancery Building (across from Heartbreak Coffee). Go up the stairs and to the right. Depending on attendance numbers, it will be held in either the small room at the top of the stairs or one of the larger rooms down the hallway.
A scheduling note on public hearings: Since all zoning requests are heard first by the Planning Commission (4th Monday of the month) and a 15-day public notice is required for the subsequent Board hearing, most public hearings before the Board are scheduled for the third Monday of the month at 9:00am. The Board meetings on the first Monday at 5:00pm tend to be more administrative in nature, though not always.
Meeting Agendas
The Board and Commission publish meetings agendas on their websites, typically the business day before the meeting. See Board Website and Commission Website.
Meeting Materials
In March 2026, the Commission started publishing the meeting materials online, typically right before the meeting below the agenda on its website. In April 2026, the Board adopted the same practice. See Board Website and Commission Website.
Mississippi Supreme Court Precedent"Every member of every public board and commission in this state should always bear in mind that the spirit of the [Open Meetings] Act is that a citizen spectator, including any representative of the press, has just as much right to attend the meeting and see and hear everything that is going on as has any member of the board or commission."
